Jam week

Apparently it’s national jam week.  My favourite is possibly homemade marrow and ginger, its so good and made from such a maligned vegetable (the marrow obviously!).

In the shop we’re doing jam jar arrangements with pots of homemade jam. You need a good loaf to go with it – this is my wholemeal/granary/white mix with a bit less salt than you’re supposed to add.

Says what it does on the tin

And you’ve got to try this recipe for kedgeree.  Try it.

2 fillets of smoked haddock (or mackrel/bit of smoked salmon maybe – just use the fish you like and that’s smokey)

4 eggs

400gm basmati rice

700 ml fish stock

1/2 a bunch of spring onions

1 tablespoon hot curry power

Chop the white part of the spring onions and fry in a little oil, add the curry powder and then the rice.  Stir it so it’s coated. Add the stock and simmer with the lid on for 20 minutes. Grill the fish, boil the eggs and chop the rest of the spring onion.   Once the rice is done add it all together and mix well.  It has to be served with Geeta’s mango chutney.  Trust me!

Feeds 2 for dinner and 2 for lunch.

And a blog can’t be complete without a picture of some flowers – so here’s today’s Sweet Avalanche number with lambs ears.

If you want the proper loaf recipe let me know.
