Please please please

here it comes, steel yourself.  I don’t like the John Lewis advertisement on television.  There I’ve said it.  The cat is out of the bag.  The Smith’s cover, doesn’t cut it on any level. Don’t mess with perfection.

And then there’s the pretence, that any child would wake up and ignore their gifts in favour of mum and dad. It’s not going to happen, and you know in reality he smells of wee.  So for all the parents who have little normal kids who go wild, rip open the wrapping and ignore them – congratulations for raising normal kids.

Christmassy stuff.  Christmas flowering hyacinth bulbs, snowflake, ilex berries.  So am I wrong on the advert? What do you think? Am I being the grinch? Did it make you shed a tear?!

I do agree that it’s unrealistic but also think the little boy is cute in that advert. It would have been more effective if they showed a clip of the parents wrapping his gifts (with John Lewis shopping bags next to them) and then the excitement of the little boy ripping his presents open under the tree with the parents smiling. As it was playing, the concept of the little boy waiting for Christmas to arrive was quite good, but the end was a let down. So far, nothing has come close to the advert from 2 years ago showing the life journey of the little girl. That was magical!
