Gender politics. The gender politics of hair? This week hair trauma. I think it’s safe to say I’m not someone who is often described as ‘girly’. But that said, it also doesn’t mean that because I don’t having flowing locks I lack any style. So for a very simple short cut, a bit of undercutting on the back and sides and a longer choppy bit on the top it took two stylists.
TWO! And an hour and half. And the phrase ‘I can’t do men’s hair’. Err sorry to break this to you petal, but I’m a lady. And not of course forgetting you’ve been cutting hair for eight years?! Maybe it’s time to brush up on the ‘barbering’ skills. Oh and one final thing, stop charging me for ‘women’s hair’ if it’s clearly a men’s cut.
Oh I’m glad that little rant is over and done with. There was going to be another about organisations waffling on about ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ and then using shit loads of plastic trays and floral foam. But I don’t have the energy for that.
Down at the plot amazing things are happening. Artichokes a-go-go, I’m waiting until they develop that soft fluffy lilac centre before harvesting. The Nigella bed is just about to pop and the poppies make one’s heart swoon. Although the sweet peas are sulking immensely. A little like the whole of social media, which consisted of the phrase ‘first day of summer’ and ‘snowing in Scotland’. There will be warmth at some stage. Ever the optimist.
